OUR MISSION

At PIMS&RC, Student Counselling Services recognize that mental health and wellbeing are integral to student’s personal growth and academic success. We provide a safe, non-judgmental and professional space for all enrolled students of PIMS&RC to explore challenges, build resilience, and develop coping skills. Our goal is to promote psychological well-being and assistance through academic pressures, life transitions, interpersonal concerns, and questions related to identity and adjustment. Whether you are managing stress, seeking clarity, or simply need someone to talk to, your counsellor is here to support you.

SERVICES OFFERED

  • Individual Counselling: Confidential one-to-one sessions for personal, emotional, or academic concerns.
  • Group Support: facilitated peer groups addressing common themes such as performance pressure, anxiety, burn-out, and adapting to medical college life.
  • Workshops & Training: Skill building sessions on stress management, mindfulness, time management, study skills and integrity.

Includes orientation for first year students on psychological adjustment to living away from family and its impact on emotional wellbeing and academics. 

  • Crisis Support: Immediate assistance for urgent mental health concerns, with referral to emergency services as per hospital protocol when required.
  • Guidance & Consultation: Support academic concerns, relationship issues, questions related to sexual orientation or gender identity and adjustment difficulties.

 

HOW TO ACCESS THE SERVICE

Hours: Mon to Sat 11:00 AM–7:00 PM. Emergency support available 24/7.

Booking: Open-door policy for walk-ins. Prior appointment recommended via Helpline/ email. 

Location: second floor, Medical College building, PIMS&RC Campus, (ADD MAP LINK).  

Cost: Free service provided by PIMSRC for all enrolled students.

All sessions are strictly confidential. Information is not shared with faculty, administration, parents, or guardians without your written consent, except when there is immediate risk to you or others, as mandated by law and institutional policy.

1. Do I need a serious problem to come for counselling? 

No. You can reach out just to talk or for preventive support. Many students seek counselling for 

  • exam stress
  • sleep difficulties
  • decision making
  • relationship concerns
  • homesickness
  • questions related to sexual orientation or gender identity
  • hostel adjustment
  • or to learn better coping skills

Prevention and self-care are valid reasons to attend. 

 

 2. Is it really confidential? 

Absolutely. Information shared during counselling remains between you and your counsellor. We don’t disclose details to faculty, parents, or administration without your written consent.

The only exception is when there is imminent risk to your safety or the safety of others. In such cases disclosure is limited to what is necessary to prevent harm, and you will be informed of the process as appropriate. 

 

3. Will this be reported in my academic profile or records? 

No. use of counselling services is confidential. And maintained separately from your academic and medical records. It will not appear in your student profile, transcripts, or reports to faculty. Accessing support will not affect your grades, evaluations or standing in the college.

 

4. What happens in the counselling session?

The first meeting is approximately 45- 60 minutes. We’ will discuss your concerns, understand your needs, and jointly decide on a plan for support.  Sessions are non-judgmental and focused on your well-being. There is no pressure to disclose more than you are comfortable with. 

 

5. Are there follow- up sessions? 

Yes. Counselling is often a process, not a single meeting. Based on your needs and mutual agreement, follow up sessions can be scheduled. The frequency and total number of sessions are decided jointly with you. There is no fixed limit, and you can discontinue at any time. 

 

6. What if I need medication or psychiatric help? 

Counselling focuses on talk- based support and coping strategies. If your concerns may benefit from medical assessment or medication, with your written consent we can provide a referral to a qualified psychiatrist of your choice. 

 

7. How much does it cost? 

This is a free service provided by Pushpagiri PIMSRC for all enrolled students.
